Taking care of the human concerns of our brothers and sisters in need is of utmost importance to our parish community. The Church of St. Andrew operates a food pantry in the basement of the church. Food donations are collected every week in the rear of the church and the Parish Center. Donations from civic organizations are always appreciated. Food is distributed each Thursday in the evening from 6:00 - 7:00 PM for those families in need. Food baskets are also distributed to needy families during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
Food is also collected from neighboring businesses and distributed to local families, shelters, and those in need in Bergen and Passaic Counties. We are so thankful for the local businesses who support our work! Volunteers are welcome and needed to help stock shelves, bag, and sort food, and distribute packages. If you feel called to assist in any way, please contact the Parish Office. Your gift of time and talent is much appreciated!

The Food Pantry is always in need of volunteers to help serve our brothers and sisters in need. Please consider donating your time by committing to assist with one of our sectors of service in the Food Pantry.
Food Shopping- If there is a great deal at a supermarket for items that we need to stock up on, we may need people to assist with purchasing items such as toothpaste, deoderant, etc. This task would include using donated gift cards to shop for items and bring them to the food pantry.
Food Donation Pick Up- We are blessed to recieve several donations from stores and businesses in our local community. We need help driving around to pick up these donations and bringing them to the food pantry. Trucks and larger cars are best.
Sorting Food- Every Tuesday (morning or afternoon) volunteers help sort food by putting away recent donations and pulling items for the upcoming distribution.
Packaging Food- Wednesdays (mornings or afternoons) are set aside for packaging bags of food that will be distributed the next day.
Distribution- We distribute food and items every Thursday. We need assistance packaging fresh items such as produce, dairy, and bread. In addition we use volunteers to help stock carts full of items, and check in families who are claiming their food. Spanish speaking volunteers are needed!
Is there another way you think you may be able to assist our Food Pantry? Contact us to share your time and talents with us! We welcome all volunteers of any age to help in this important ministry. Let us know how you or your family can help serve those in need!
Volunteering with the Food Pantry is a wonderful way to serve the community for those who need to participate in community service and outreach for Confirmation or high school projects. Please be mindful that this is an important ministry that relies on dependable assistance from our volunteers. Parents are encouraged to serve alongside their youth to witness the good work of the ministry!
