Dear Year 1 Candidates and Family,
Can you believe that the year is almost coming to an end and that summer is approaching soon? It seems like we just met and had our interviews! Before the year comes to an end and we break for the summer, it's time to start thinking about your service project for Confirmation. As many of you may remember from our meetings last summer, we've replaced the common "service hour requirement" with service projects aimed at building the Kingdom of God on earth and supporting the community. Service projects are more than just accumulating hours; they're about making an impact in the Church and community.
These projects should reflect your unique gifts and passions, as well as address a need within our community or beyond. Whether it's spreading Jesus to the members of our church community, providing essentials to those in need, or being a steward, these projects should all be aimed at being instruments of God and being God's hands on earth.
As you begin brainstorming ideas, consider what moves you and where you feel called to make a difference. Remember, Confirmation is not just a one-time event but a journey of faith that extends beyond the ceremony itself. Your service project is an opportunity to live out your faith in a tangible way and to be a witness to the love and compassion of Christ.
Fill out the Google Form linked below to let us know which project you are interested in. If you are interested in completing the project as a group get all the information you need. Figure out which projects you are interested in and complete the Google Form with all the group information
Meetings will take only about 15 minutes. Eileen will review your idea with you, give you feedback, and help you come up with steps to start the project.
All meetings will be held in person in the Net (Brick House)
Why do I need to do this? Service hours were easier.
Logging service hours can often be like checking off boxes. When it comes to our faith, we are not called to do what is easiest, but rather to live out the teachings of Jesus and to make him known to others. In taking on a project, you learn how you can serve the community and build the Kingdom of God here one earth instead of tallying up hours.
Why do I need to put more than 1 option?
You are being asked for at least your top 3 ideas because there is a strong possibility more than 1 group wants to do the same project. Projects will be given the green light on a first-come-first-serve basis after meetings are scheduled.
What if I have an idea that is not on the list?
We would love to talk about it! explain it in the form and we'll talk more about it at the meeting!
Is this the same as Youth Ministry Outreach Nights?
No, outreach nights are separate from a service project. You will complete your service project in addition to the Year II nights next year.
What if I want to sign up for one of the service camps or retreats?
Email Jessica as soon as possible. There is limited space on our St. Andrew's day of service and the day will be limited to the first 12 people who are interested in participating.
Why are certain projects limited in participants?
To ensure everyone is contributing to the project, some project group sizes might be listed as less than 5 people. If you have questions, email the office.
